Jens Wirth joins ICA Bremen

Jens Wirth has joined ICA Bremen in his role as Quality Manager Cotton and will be working alongside Karsten Fröse during this transition period.

Jens worked for Otto Stadtlander GmbH since 2001. Having started as an apprentice he became head of the quality department in 2010. Jens attended Cotton Classing and Testing Training in 2004 and became an official ICA Bremen Quality Expert for classing and arbitration in 2011.

Speaking on his new role, Jens Wirth said “During my great time at Otto Stadtlander GmbH I learned all about cotton from scratch. In addition, I had the opportunity to do many business trips to companies, for example to examine cotton in the countries of origin. My tasks also included visits to various growth where sampling and classing of raw cotton from a qualitative point of view was required. My main travel destinations were Central Asia and Europe. There were also many customer visits, so that I was able to gain a good insight into the problems and possibilities of spinning and weaving mills.”

In 2005 Jens attended the International Cotton Institute at Rhodes College for 4 months and passed with distinction. He also kept in touch with cotton processing during an internship at Velener Textil amongst others.

In 2019 Jens left the cotton industry partly and worked for Stucken Melchers who is the lead in trading silk yarns in Europe and who trades nearly all natural fibers except cotton.

Rejoining the cotton world full-time is a great next step, Jens Wirth states “I am very happy that I had the opportunity to constantly expand my knowledge about cotton. Even during my time at Stucken Melchers, the contact with the Bremen Cotton Exchange remained, there was a regular exchange of ideas, and I kept the status of quality expert. Accordingly, I am all the happier that I can now continue my life’s work with the BBB and ICA Bremen. But the greatest gift is that the world of the cotton community knows no borders. Cultures and religions are respected, and great friendships are formed even across political hurdles.”

Jens Wirth will be transitioning into his new role within ICA Bremen. Jens and Karsten Fröse are currently working together and sharing knowledge before Karsten steps down from his current role.
