We are working with some of the biggest names in the industry to be the first to develop a full traceability system.
Significant progress has been made to accurately measure the percentage of marked cotton in final garments simply by scanning it, which involves adding an identifier to fibres at the ginning stage.
Kai Hughes, ICA Bremen Manager Director said: “Our traceability system will be a massive step forward for major brands, retailers and growers, replacing the current ‘tagging’ systems and cutting out the need for supply chain certification processes.
“We know that there are other companies claiming to offer ‘traceability’ services but these just tag the cotton and provide a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. There are none that can also quantify their results to provide an exact percentage like ours will. The process has already been proved in the laboratory and work is now taking place to identify suitable partners to conduct field trials.”
More developments will be announced in due course.
